Emerge Gallery Opening

I had a great time at the Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, New York for the opening for their show with art about the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. My “Abbey Road” piece is featured there.

Gallery opening: Saugerties, New York

I’ll be at Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, New York on August 3rd from 5 – 8 for the opening of their show “(All You Need Is) Satisfaction” with artwork inspired by The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. My Abbey Road piece will be featured. Saugerties is a cute little town near Woodstock, and I really like the gallery. If you’re in the area, please stop by!

Also, I just finished my latest work, a cat tribute to the Frazetta piece I recently did of the Egyptian Queen.

My Frank Frazetta tribute

My latest piece of “artist selfies” is Frank Frazetta’s “Egyptian Queen” with Frank looking on from above. Frank lived in my town of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania (where his family runs his museum). Sadly, I never got to meet him, but I became friends with his son Bill who runs Frazetta’s Costume Shop in town (which is of course decorated with lots of Frazetta artwork). Bill gave me permission to do this piece, and here’s a picture of us posing with it (as well as the pencil sketch I did beforehand) in his store!  Click on the picture for a larger view.

My Balticon schedule

I’ll be a guest artist at the Balticon convention in Baltimore this weekend (May 24 – 27). I’ll have work in the art show and will be on a few discussion panels about costuming. Here’s my schedule!

Tools for Crafting: What’s Worth It? (Friday 6pm) With Pavlina Gardner (moderator), Dame Dahlia, Karen Schnaubelt, Heidi Hooper. Tools can get very expensive, and costumers and crafters need a lot of them. Which items are worth a splurge, which should you buy on sale, and which can you get for free?

Fabric Embellishment (Saturday 3pm) With Carol Salemi, Alanna Whitestar, Heidi Hooper. Embellishment is one way to make a costume really pop on stage and adds depth when seen up close. Come learn about beads, rhinestones, soutache, and other techniques for enhancing your look.

From Design to Reality (Sunday 11am) With Gaia Eirich (moderator), Betsy Marks Delaney, Lisa Ashton, Alanna Whitestar, Heidi Hooper. How to select patterns, pick appropriate fabrics, and other skills required for turning two-dimensional idea into a three-dimensional object.

Working With Difficult Materials (Monday 10am) With Pavlina Gardner, Leslie Johnston, Karen Schnaubelt, Gaia Eirich, Heidi Hooper. Fear not leather, pleather, velvet, or lace; use cardboard, cork board and feet that pace! Panelists will divulge secrets to handling difficult materials.

Isaac Asimov!

I met Isaac Asimov a few times. The first was at a convention where I was wearing a very revealing costume. We were on the elevator together and he spent the entire time staring at my boobs.

Anyway, here’s my tribute to him! I used gray lint as the Foundation. (Get it?)

New Gallery Show

I have just been informed that I have been accepted for the Art League of Rhode Island’s juried show “Twisting Fibers” which will run from March 8 through May 8 at Gallery 175 in Pawtucket. I am told that my piece “Dali #3” was selected over 388 other submissions. The reception and Award Ceremony will be on March 14 from 5:30 to 8:00, and I plan to be there.
